Have a copy of the folder on both computers.
Run your dir {parameters} >list.txt command on both, outputting to a text files - say list1.txt & list2.txt

Compare the two files using a command like...

Run the free version of HD Sentinel - it will tell you if your HDD is healthy, based on S.M.A.R.T. data.

If the DVD is videos rather than data, you'll need to install a third-party program to play it.
I suggest the popular and free VLC player.
