So i'm a hobbyist system builder for friends a family and often i'm also their go-to guy for troubleshooting. Now, im using MR Home to do my own system backups but i've yet to make a rescue media...
Sorry it took me so long but only now had tthe guts/time to do it. Just finished the inplace upgrade. No dice, still error 5 access denied. It WILL fix it MS said, well they were wrong. Looks like...
i've got a rescue flashdrive ;) If i restore the image and it doesn't work then i've lost time for nothing and potential files. I'd rather do it the VM way first or straight up in-place upgrade.
true, but i can't check if indexing service works by exploring the image can i ;) by installing the image i can
i have macrium. Guess i could install a vm to see if the latest image i have works. Any recommendations? The images are already stored on 1 of the drives in the case's hotswap bays :)
i know my way around mounting iso's :) That won't be a problem. I'll try to do a repair install over the weekend.
yeah it can. tried, didn't work.
Still on pc in a folder on documents, but portable apps arent active until you launch the exe. That's the whole point of them. No need to install anything, no registry entries, no start menu entries,...
as i said O&O is portable, it's not active until you launch the exe. You launch it, make your selection, shut it down and reboot. Fixes are permanent. Other than that tool. Any "manual guides"? I...
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth => no corruption
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth => no corruption
guess an in-place upgrade will be the only option
O&O is portable and I've done nearly a dozen reboots so far to no avail. I'll report back later, could be a while depending on when I have the time to do what your link said and in-place upgrading...
Update, had a chat with the real MS support people. Checked out services, set the uac slider to stage 3 (1 from disabled). Nothin Final answer "in-place upgrade". Yeah, right. Not going to reinstall...
worth a try, i've got build 1358. Will get back to you
**edit** tried and failed. Still error 5
attached also the log for sfc /scannow. Cmd said some corrupt files but unable to repair, though...
That link: Error 2
My issue: Error 5 different error
Not going to dig around in the register for a different issue on a different OS
While trying to do a search in outlook 2016, i got the notice "something happened and search cannot be executed" or something like that. A quick google led to the indexing service. I launched...
nah, i'll have to live with it. There's maybe one or two apps i use (xbox accesoires for my controller, and calc) and don't want to loose access to them. Damn microsoft :p
Mystere don't worry i won't. I only take control of specific files or eg a subdirectory i made UNDER program files, not program files itself :). Aint that stupid :)
TairikuOkami (what a nickname...
guess i'll have to live with it then. I can easily do the "take ownership" thing, but that's overkill and as you say, security is paramount
I do have it set to "never notify", i don't use any of the "apps". I don't mind it being active at some level i just want to stop those popups. Right now, it still notifies even though it's set to...
As always the first thing i do on a windows installation is disable that damn UAC, i don't need windows to add another popup "are you sure you want to run this" when i myself click on an executable...
axe0 it was indeed Avast that was the problem. An emergency update was pushed earlier today. For more info [fixed] Blue Screen (BSOD) - Windows 10 Anniversary Update on Skylake CPU might be worth...
I'll let em know. However, as stated at the bottom of the 1st post, this may be an avast related issue. The fix should get pushed today or tomorrow. Either way i'll report back
Care to point me to which ones and how you saw that? I'm a bit of a newbie and this is a couple weeks old system i bought. Just had it assembled and said i need "this, this and that and software that...
and what do you mean by that? I have a legitimate OS! Nor am i asking for any help about cracking, hacking, the use of it or anything remotely similar!
