This is a brand new drive installed after all options failed.
As I said before both my DVD drive and my usb ports are inaccessible. Unless Hirams' boot is something you wear to kick the computer it...
Something I forgot to mention is that after I ran all the aforementioned repair options they became unavailable along with the ability to boot from usb. I can now only access the bios. when I boot...
Thanks for the info. I will try the reset. As for the age of the computer I bought it about 3 weeks ago but it was a refurb so the HDD could have been bad but replacing it did not change anything....

While I had windows XP I partitioned my hard drive and had ubuntu running side-by-side with windows.
When I tried that with windows Vista ubuntu wiped out everything and took over the whole drive....
