I installed Win 7, then activated it. I did not do any updates to 7 before upgrading to 10 and it worked fine.

You shouldn't need it if you already have it installed and activated. Just download the ISO, burn to disk, and launch it from inside your current install. It will ask if you want to upgrade it...
