A suggestion. Have you tried looking at and changing the compatibility mode (right click on the executable, choose properties then the compatibility tab)?

Having had a chance to use my Windows 10 computer I am certain the problem was associated with being in tablet mode.

It does indeed sound like it is in tablet mode. I will have a play with my Windows 10 computer over the next couple of days and will post my findings.
