Thanks - yes I was going to do that too, but less often. I was reading system image of c:/ is good and then data more regularly.

So am I right about the fact you cannot put the entire user profile...

I hate user profiles. When you don't need different ones and only have 1 computer user, they are a pain in the neck!

Really? Ok will bear that in mind. I tend to use CC most of the time but system mechanic has helped me identify unnecessary/ clean up start up files etc in the past. Is CC still okay to use?

Ok thanks - maybe I wont try that then ;) It was just a thought as I wondered if it is just running on the boot disk just to access chkdsk, and chkdsk sits below windows ie uses command prompt ...

JUst a thought - I might have an old win 7 boot disk that I made after install...would it be possible to run chkdsk from that at all?

even tho my machine is win 10 ... could it boot to win 7 on...

No I dont think so ... it just sat at the error message...fairly certain message was from the BIOS... message was very early on in bootup...it didnt then go to desktop... I had to hard reboot with...

yes ichanged it, saved it and then booted and got the error

The USB stick flashes the minute I start booting up every time, irrespective of the boot config settings and then solidly glows once booted up to usual desktop on harddrive

ok ...I will try it ..hang on... it gave me the options of ATA or RAID...selecting ATA, I get "missing operating system"
