BINGO! That fixed it! Thanks for sharing that link torre.
With the "Microsoft" Windows 10 version 1607 upgrade finished on my "Microsoft" Surface Pro 3, I can now deal with the next issue, namely...
Greetings! I cleared the Windows Store Cache and ran sfc/scannow (it did find uncorrectable errors). I then ran the update from USB media. I'm still getting the same errors: 0x80070002 - 0x20007, in...
I'm having a similar problem on a Surface Pro 3 (by *Microsoft*!). At first I was updating via Windows Update. Then I got the Media Creation Tool and run it. It also resulted in reverting to 1511,...
Done and back in business. A nice new 500 GB SSD holds the operating system (Columbia, "C:") and a new 1 TB HDD replaces Zodiac (Zenith, "Z:"). All my key work tools are re-installed, even Adobe...
I have completed the above steps.
NOTE: My free copy of bootable Partition Wizard shows me only 1 disk, even if several are connected. So I had to set the disks inactive one by one.
It...
Thanks Arc, I will do these instructions and report back.
I will consider this current case closed if we can achieve the first objective above. The second step I will do later (maybe next week).
I apologize for this confusion and I can appreciate your frustration. Please look at the "EDIT:" I made to my last post above which crossed while you were writing. The recovery partition on Valiant...
Good morning Arc. Doing a Rebuild MBR makes a lot of sense.
But I'm unclear on which drive you want to rebuild. I think you're saying the internal drive labelled Valiant should be the one....
Hi, Arc. I have attached screenshots showing the files.
#1 is the 250 GB external (which has been my boot drive),
#2 is the 250 GB internal (Valiant) and
#3 is the 250 GB internal (Zodiac).

Well, Arc, many thanks for shining some light in this dark cavern. As a result of examining these drives one by one, it would appear that I have been booting off the external 250 GB drive all along!...
Well, it's not good. After disconnecting all but C, I tried the "hard power-off" method to invoke a Startup Repair. But of course, the machine blue-screens before getting that far. So I attached...
The hive in question was the SYSTEM tree. Here is a link to the file on OneDrive.

In particular, I wanted to...
Yes, it should still be on Valiant.
OK, the recovery partition on Valiant has been deleted; now it shows as unallocated space in Disk Management. Windows still throws 0xc000000e if I boot without Valiant connected.
OK, I'll try that. Sorry for the delay--busy week.
Hmmm, here's what I get....

The "delete volume 13" command throws an error. If I first say:
select volume 13
delete volume
then diskpart crashes. (Diskpart has stopped working......
OK, will do but I will need instructions for doing it as Disk Management provides no options to operate on any of the recovery partitions.
Thanks.
Cheers!
Good morning Axe0. I changed the boot order to 1)HDD, 2)CD-ROM, 3)[Disabled]. It didn't change anything. With the "Valiant" drive in the dock, Windows boots OK. With the Valiant drive out of the...
The boot order is: CD-ROM, "Removable Device", HDD. Not sure what the "Removable Device" is (USB perhaps)? I have uploaded a screenshot of the BIOS.
I have also uploaded a screenshot of the Disk...
The "Valiant" drive (external) contains a backup of my C: drive prior to doing a clean install of Windows 10 some months ago. After the clean install, I used "Valiant" to recover a bunch of files. I...
It's an interesting theory and easily tested since I can swap the dock with my other eSATA drive (swap backpanel connectors) and see what that does. I can also connect the dock over USB and see what...
Good day Axe0, I have attached the docking station to my Surface Pro 3 (Win 10 Pro 64-bit) using USB. It appears to be working just fine. It is a dual-dock; I have two drives mounted, both operate...
It is currently attached via eSATA to the subject machine. I do not have an eSATA port on any other machine. The best I can do is attached it via USB to a different machine. I will do that tomorrow...
The crash never occurs when the HDD is connected. It only occurs when the HDD is NOT connected. The system runs normally (I use it everyday as my graphic arts workstation) as long as that HDD is...
