Just to update. The graphics card began to show obvious signs of failure with green corruption, even at the BIOS stage. I have since replaced it.

You can disable Windows 10 grabbing updates for your hardware, so it won't automatically download the AMD video drivers and black screen in the install. So at least I can use Windows 10...
