Is there a permanent fix for this. I am on Office 2021 and Outlook is the only app the search bar issue is present on... simply no way to kill it, no setting/toggle for it in Outlook's...
Thank you for the reply.
Well aware of that limitation of 7 and well aware that it has been overcome in 10. However - a way to overcome it in 7 is to use the same 3rd party tool, which I used in...
Not sure why you distinguish between Windows and FAT32 ... you should instead be distinguishing btwn NTFS and FAT32 since those are the 2 partitions of my USB pen. Doesn't matter so much for me which...
Thanks, I already addressed this issue in the OP, saying that I work with my USB pen on various Windows machines only. So... the whole point is not to set up 1 PC to not write on pen drives or not to...
Yes .. elaborate on that pls in the context of what I'm asking for. Context being - I carry my USB around and work on it on various Windows machines. I've partitioned the pen in 2 partitions so one...
If anyone should want to ask why I split it in 2 partitions (volumes) - because 1 is FAT32 and the other NTFS for varying purposes.
Hi. I am looking (so far unsuccessfully) for a way to write-protect (set as read only) a single partition (i.e. a volume) of my usb pen so that the write protection (read-only) carries thru when I...
@Emma - I think with this thread we've shown that, albeit slightly workaroundish, there is a way to have full control over what is installed and what isn't in terms of Win Updates in Win10.
@LB -...
And u r absolutely right! Good point! MS need to understand that point once and for all .. but they are stubborn ... too stubborn ...
Thank for your comments, Emma! : )
I have win 10 as a back-up if win7 does not outlive them cos I feel 10 is much better than 8 and 8.1. But i totally feel you. 7 is awesome. In 10 however,...
I am just as stubborn as you are, friend! : ) And I FULLY agree with you. I can't tell you how much I agree with this - 'I really dislike them removing options and giving users the ability to do it...
So yes @Emma ... just tested it again ... in the group policy editor keep the 'Config. automatic updates' settings to Disabled (and nothing else but that) and this way you'll get no prompts no...
Naaah ... W10 is much better than both 8 and 8.1, IMO. 8/8.1 was a bigger fail even than Vista. Besides ... in w7 you do have FULL control over what updates are installed from MS and if you don't...
So here is the W10 update workflow that i've figure out so far and it seems to work. Gives control, at least, as W7:
Beware that once Windows Update sees an update and lists it as available for...
BTW any idea why when I go to 'View installed updates' I only see updates from a day ago or so. I'm sure I installed LOADS of updates earlier on ... like a week ago or so and now I can't see them ......
Thanks! I found this and it seems reasonable - How to remove the Windows 10 GWX upgrade nonsense
what do you think? I don't care any more actually cos I managed to solve the issue by blocking the...
Ermm.... the fix actually works for both Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise
Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Just to add to that long post from @XweAponX ermm .... another thing to do in order to stop the Forced update to Win10 when on Win7/8/8.1 is to delete all entries of 'GWX' in OS partition. Just...
I'll try all that and if it works .. what can I say? A huge thank you, man!
@jebuchanan - seems there is hope, after all.
Thank you so much for this suggestion:
Oh - I misread the OP. Sorry. To do this, you must have Win 10 Pro. Use GPedit.msc to allow "Notify ONLY" for updates. The, use wushowhide.diagcab (not sure...
Edit: thank you!
Hahahahah ... poor MS! Then that means they are steadfastly refusing to have me (and I'm sure millions others) use Win10 at all .... LOL !!!!!!!!!!
PS - can we at least on Win8.1 install only the...
Thank you for the reply. What's the progress on this issue, do u know?
I was hoping to hear from someone from Microsoft telling me whether or not they are EVER going to change this behaviour in...
Hi
Last time I checked Win10 it was only possible to postpone installing certain Win updates that W10 found, nothing more. Is it EVER going to be possible on W10 to do as in W7 ... namely install...
