I've found that there is little rhyme or reason which computers end up with driver issues. I've had issues with several of the Dell Latitude E64xx series, and HP of course. But I put it on a P4...
Will the .exe from HP have the same name as the .sys that is installed?
Thanks for the other advice, I didn't know you could do that! I've had a multitude of similar issues with touchpad drivers...
I've had this problem before, this time on a HP All In One. A Win update caused the ethernet connection to be unusable. I finally got it back using system restore. I don't have any confidence that...
I just installed Windows 10 successfully on a Dell Optiplex 280 with a Pentium 4, lol.
Hi Everyone,
Checking back in to mark this one solved and tell the ending to the story. I had back burnered the computer that is the subject of this thread while I worked on others and to stew...
I'll try uncleaner on other machines. For this I'm going to wipe the drive and start completely over to be really secure. That Documents and Settings file contains login info for Firefox that I...
Well this is embarrassing. As usual the problem was operator stupidity. :(
I downloaded and ran TreeSize Free and immediately found that buried in Documents and Settings were all of my personal...
Thank you, I'll try those.
I've got a relatively new 10 install, not many programs and no personal files. I've used it a little to clone some drives and test video cards and that's it. Despite that it is taking up 74GB on...
2 for 3! Tried another of the downgraded HP's, I went straight for the clean install of 10, it didn't ask for a number, and opened up activated. :)
Success! The computer that had ShowKeyPlus return a Win 8.1 key from the BIOS has 10 installed and activated with digital entitlement using the freshly created install drive. :)
On to the...
Thank you for your detailed replies. :) I'll redo the thumb drive in the morning.
I am connected, yes. No I didn't use the .iso in the link, I created a Win 10 flash drive mid February using the Media Creation Tool, too old?
It says to enter another key or go to the Store.
IDK, I tried editing when I realized I'd exposed the key, but got both pics, so I deleted and started over with a copy/paste. Hopefully it's sorted now.

Yes it does look like this one has the key. Why doesn't it activate with digital entitlement?
Well this is a surprise. Booted another of the 4. Still no activation with digital entitlement though.

OK so I'll boot up one that I didn't do stupid things with and run showkey, looking for the marker. I guess if there's no marker that changes things but I'll hope. If it's there I'll call HP to...
If you're sure the recovery media would cover all four, that's a no brainer! That would sure be a relief, thank you. :)
No, and when I run RWEverything there is no MSDM table tab. I don't really know what that means, but I'm assuming it's missing because there's no table to read. I also tried upgrading the BIOS...
I actually have 4 of these, they came from a corporate setting. They all look just the same, a sticker on them says "downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7". They apparently were ordered that way...
Is pleading my case with HP something I'd do on the phone?
Thanks, I guess I'll quit with that approach. :(
Fair enough, thanks for all of the help. :) I admit I stretched things a bit, but the machine originally came with a working copy of 7 and I'd be in the same spot if I'd bought it with the hard...
