Raid: I agree. I used to run a Raid 1 array but switched to periodic full-HDD Cloning & Imaging for the same reason you mentioned; no protection from malware or other undesired...
How about the /fixboot parameter within bootrec? I believe it writes a new MBR which would replace the infected MBR.

They may have been referring to 'fixmbr' & other CMD MBR-repair tools that can be accessed from a Windows Install media (USB, CD).
Here's some info about it: Restore, Fix, Repair Master...
Shawn,
Thanks for the thorough info about CMD & its path, past & future. Good to know my old CMD scripts will be running for a while :)
Thanks for the links.
I'm running Win 7 and have used several of the Sysinternals tools a few years.
Are the Sysinternals tools running ok on Win 10? I'm thinking about upgrading to 10 soon...
Thanks again for the info :)
Thanks as always, Shawn :).
10-4, thanks :). Sorry for all the questions. It sometimes takes some time to filter out misinformation that I read elsewhere about this topic.
Shawn,
Thanks for the info regarding clean install's :). Am I correct in assuming that Win 10 operates the same as previous Win OS'es regarding installing a Cloned HDD?
For example, I clone my...

Thanks for the info :).
I'd also read at another forum about there being a question about whether Win 10 allows the PC user to replace the OS HDD (in the event of a HDD failure, or to...
Shawn,
Thanks for the reply :). This clears (for me) a major hurdle in my consideration to possibly accept the free upgrade path before next July.
Will a post-30-day rollback HDD (or switching...
I read this at another forum and wanted to ask members here if they have rolled back to Win 7 (or 8.1) via a Cloned HDD or a full-HDD Image Restoration after their 30-day time period has expired.

This tutorial at the Win 7 Forum from Shawn ("Brink") should provide your answer. It's a Registry edit (actually, adding a dword) that reverts the <alt> <tab> order to earlier Win versions.

I'm running Win 7 but I'd keep the cloned 8.1 HDD and obtain another spare HDD.
I use 2 spare "spinner" HDD's for my 2-week C: HDD cloning. Since spinner HDD's are inexpensive, it's worth it for...

10-4, thanks for the info.

If that will work on my PC, it's one of my significant "should I upgrade to 10" questions answered.
I'll watch the forum and see how the 10 rollout goes.
↑ Thanks for the info :).
I have my Prod Key and COA info available so a clean install w/DVD should be ok.
Would the Cloning idea work for me? (running Win 7 on one HDD and 10 on another...
I'm interested in this issue as well as I Clone often (and full-HDD Image less frequently).
I'm interested in upgrading with the free Win 10 version down the road as I see how the general release...

I've been using Macrium (free V5x) for my Win 7 PC Imaging the last couple of years. It's one of the best GUI interfaces that I've seen with Cloning/Imaging...

If I had to choose, I'd pick the 8.1 calculator vs the Win 10 version.
Thanks for the info, always appreciated.
