Coax vs. fiber determines the latency the first few miles. Coax is not yet ready to go that low.
I've noticed that it appears when certain applications are started. In this case steam/tf2. The keyboard doesn't go away when the application is closed. It only appears in the system tray menu, not...
I have added, removed, added and removed... Nothing helps. It seems Windows cannot live without the us-keyboard.
I disabled every such "feature" in xp. I used xp for a decade without ever having such a restart. The same goes for Windows 7.
Forcing updates is one thing. Forcing a restart is another - and completely unacceptable. Until now I have been able to reschedule the restart. Today it just restarted while I was working. Bug?...
I uninstalled get skype on day 1. Every day vclibs 12 and crt rtm appears multiple times in the update log.
The upgrade is both free and a full edition. The EULA doesn't explicitly say the "free" upgrade is transferable. They only write that the free upgrade is tied to the machine that you upgrade.
The...
I think most of those sources quote the same initial source. I've seen other people that have talked with Microsoft which confirm that you go from retail to oem.
I've upgraded from oem. My slmgr...
The question is now: Were you just lucky, or is this going to be their standard procedure from now... Giving out Win10 product keys to all with a win7/8 retail license.
What’s the relationship between activation and genuine Windows?
Then let us call it checking for "genuine" status.
They don't have to prove anything. They just have to invalidate the previous machine you installed it on. So when that machine talks to the activation server next time, it will no longer get status...
It is very easy. They can store whatever they want along with your hardware id (the key you upgraded with).
Microsoft will of course not allow that. If you use your retail license to upgrade another machine, you'll lose the first one. Nothing else makes sense.
The purpose of the activation server is to control this. You cannot just activate Windows on every machine you want to.
How do you know that? We only know the hardware id of your computer is stored. Which is why they write "Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device" .
The point would be that when you cannot upgrade for free anymore, you will no longer be able to install it on a new machine. It will only activate on your old machine = oem license.
I think you need to differentiate between a free upgrade and a paid upgrade.
Windows - Microsoft
They tell you this about the free upgrade: "Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on...
It is a security thing, to minimize the damage a malicious program might do. It is called User Account Control - UAC.
The problem described in this thread is actually a whole other bug :-)
Minesweeper from Windows XP also still works. The last decent version of the game.
I think this issue is going to be filed under bugs. Many people are seeing this. I also have items that refuse to appear in all apps.
Don't reinstall just because it won't activate. It will come. You can manually do it from cmd: slmgr.vbs /ato
It might fail numerous times before it goes through.
The just released update names files related to searching. So they might have fixed something :-)
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft
is already included. So items in start menu is present in the index.
Yes. I just tried removing and adding it again. It went live right away.
