Sorry, I returned it to her today.
That comports with a Best Buy listing I saw just before, which said it had 32GB of SSD cache. And this is a Best Buy machine. Why a NVMe needs a separate drive for cache is beyond me. I supposed...
I'll let you know...

She doesn't know anything about the second drive. She bought the unit off the shelf, yet HP says there is only one drive in that model. The drive says...
She hardly uses any storage. The only thing I can think of is she's medical and the bitlockered drive might be for sensitive patient data. I'll ask her when I return the machine in a few days.
This is on an NVMe, with an i7 gen 10, so it's fast. Solid state would make yours fly. I'm wondering if the previous tech added something, though the unit doesn't appear to have been opened.
Thank you, zbook. I'm not clear on what benefit that would be. I'm just trying to understand why an extra drive is present. It is doubtful the owner put it there, I will ask her when I talk to her....
I'm working on a HP Envy x360 15m-dr1012dx. The specs say it has a 512GB nvme, and that shows in disk management. But it also shows a 27.25GB "D" drive that is bitlocker encrypted.
Does anyone...
Sir, if this is workable you have solved the dilemma that caused me to start this thread. I can update windows, do my additions, and then provision everything for a simple Reset if a customer ever...
Ah... I see, said the blind man.. (something my grandpa always used to say :).
But wait - it now lists Cumulative update KB 4467702.
And I just got another Low Disk Space warning (modal pop...
Thank you for that information. I don't mind losing OEM bloat. But I suppose I would lose all the settings and programs I add post-installation. Still, it's good to know about this option, especially...
Good ole' Windows Updates. I was just greeted by a screen that simultaneously said
"No updates available"
"Your device is missing important security and quality fixes".
I have to say,...
This was a feature update, btw. Oddly, WU showed no KB number for it.
I am in awe at how good the Stream performs for the money, especially when compared to netbooks of only a few years ago. But...
Wow, I was wondering about this, like if there was some kind of grand System Restore in operation. Does this mean a clean install on a wiped drive will have a working Reset function?
Evidently the Windows Updates troubleshooter is troubleshooter lite. I did a full updates reset and the problem is solved, plus I gained a lot of free drive space.
Update: I finally got my hands on a factory image of a 32GB eMMC. Beside the normal Windows partition and a couple of very small ancillary partitions, there is a WinRE partition about 950MB in size,...
I just got an HP Stream back from HP, with a replacement warranty MB. They gave me the 1703 edition of Win10, so there's been a lot of updating. After a bunch of it, the machine is now up to the 1803...
Also, this model does not have a cmos battery. I never heard of that before. So my power drain was complete.
If that the case the usb stick / resume event was just the trigger, and it's better that it happened now than after I sold the machine. Machine was truly running great.
Also, the port in question...
No, the mouse doesn't light up. I figured there must be a fuse on the MB. If it's self-resetting that would be awesome. I thought the power drain would do it, but no.
The port looks fine. After the power drain the machine said cmos battery was weak, bios had been cleared, had to set date again. So I think the cmos battery is a non issue. Horrible shame. There...
Just tried it. No difference
No, I figured the Win usb stick would test the installed system adequately.
I have no touchpad in UEFI either.
Hard to believe a simple Suspend error in Windows...
I had a perfectly fine laptop in front of me. It fell asleep while I was doing something. Without thinking I inserted a usb stick and turned it back on. Touchpad gone. USB port gone.
The USB ports...
Yes I am. Just as every manufacturer does on virtually every computer sold.
Ok thanks. I'll look into how practical it might be to use .wim and how much space it would take.
