Try Windows 7. Has about the same support ending schedule as 8.1 does. Drivers might be an issue but I'll look around.

Hate to tell ya but that CPU is pretty bad. 1 Ghz and its dual core. I doubt it will accept 16 GB of RAM, You might be better off buying a new laptop, as that model is a pretty low on the totem pole...

Have you tried uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it?
