This will work for me. I didn't want to have to install anything just for this purpose but NirCmd is small, requires no installation, and can execute many other commands from what I see. Thanks Denis!
Many times I use a keyboard shortcut I made to manually put my PC to sleep if I know I'm done with it for the day. The CMD embedded in the shortcut is the popular:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe...
Okay, both issues seem to be resolved.
I went into Task Scheduler and clicked the options "If the task fails, restart every 1 minute(s)" and "Attempt to restart up to 3 times". That seems to have...
Ha, big NirSoft addict here.
They have the best utilities, and I like that they don't have to be installed.

Thanks for responding.
I have to manually put the PC to sleep at the end of the day.
I've had a custom power profile set to put my PC in sleep mode after 4 hrs idle and a task setup in Task Scheduler to wake the PC every morning at a specified time. Both have been working flawlessly...
Great idea, Matthew! Thanks for that. Ran the command and there were only 6 wakeup tasks. All but my custom wakeup task were disabled. I think I'm good 👍
Is there a way to set a custom wake task (in Task Scheduler) as an "Important Wake Task"? I set up an auto wake timer to wake my PC each morning at 5am so it's ready to go when I get up but I don't...
Hey—that's actually pretty good Keith! Just tried it and the list of folders that I get when collapsing the headers is exactly what I was looking for. Plus, if I right-click a group header it gives...
Thanks Lance. Most of that I know already. I was asking for syntax to specifically find folders containing a certain file type i.e. photos.
For instance a search string that would in effect...
Does anyone know if there is a syntax for finding all folders containing certain types of files? Like if I wanted to find every folder on my D drive containing photos (and have just the folders...
I tried it on a friend's machine who has v1909 and everything seemed to be working normally: the blue syntax, the popup calendar, etc. So I guess it could be something on my machine interfering...
Back in January I upgraded from 1809 to 1909 (I'd skipped 1903). By the end of the day I found myself reverting back to 1809. It was the only time ever I went back to a previous version of Windows...
Thanks all, for chiming in.
@Infrasonic
I used CCleaner to eliminate the duplicates on my PC, but trying it on the File History drive gave me a "no duplicates found" message. I know they're on...
That was going to be my last resort, as it took hours to do the initial backup.
I was preparing to set up file history between my PC and a USB hard drive and before initiating the process, I went through the Bluetooth folder on the PC and dragged the photos and videos which were...
I do store a ton of smaller, more manageable files in cloud storage. The files on the external drives are all larger files (video and other multimedia project files) and because of their large size...
Fixed it.
I went into Disk Manager, removed drive letter (G) from the external drive, rebooted. Then I reassigned G to the drive and it opened right away, all files intact. * whew *
Not sure...
Something just occurred to me. When I booted the drive up this morning, it came up as drive "F". I had assigned it letter G years ago and it's always come up as G, so that was kinda strange it came...
Thanks for jumping in.
I tried all the steps at the link you posted. Each method reported the internal disks (3) as OK, but the external drive was not acknowledged as being present in any of the...
I was doing some backups from my PC to an external USB Drive (G) and all was going smoothly.
Then I went to manually copy some new files to the USB Drive and suddenly got the error :
G:/ is...
UPDATE: It's been a few days now and everything is still working. No problem connecting to one PC from the other now, so editing the HOSTS file appears to have solved the issue. Not sure what changed...
Actually, I think I may have solved the problem. I say "may" because the issue's been so on and off I'm not sure it will stick.
I added the IP address and PC Name of the opposite PC to the Windows...
I wasn't sure disabling IPv6 was a good idea, so I did a bit of research and everything I found recommended not disabling it but rather first try setting IPv4 to take priority over IPv6 (Win 10...
