I think you'll have to sit by your computer watching so you can
- note down the time the Start menu disappeared, then
- Run Task scheduler and, on its initial screen, look through entries in the...
I think you meant mine.
My computers use Defender, including the second one that has no entries in those keys [post #4].

Oh ,good.
I remember being concerned about backing up the whole phone years ago but I did not do anything about it.

Chris,
I've just checked another computer that I have always set up identically but it has only:-

Did you find that path anywhere in the MPE, Settings [my post #4]?
Denis
You type quicker than me.
I copy the whole lot but the main files that you might manipulate later on are
general.ini
and, in the phone's folder,
settings.dat
Both files can be opened, read &...
MPE creates its own cache.
It's not useful.
- It allows files to accumulate at every sync so you fill your computer's disk up needlessly.
- When I realised this I set it to delete every time MPE...
You already have a Windows 10-11 licence.
Don't buy another one.
Denis
It's only just occurred to me to ask if you have set up the two phones as separate 'user' entries [bottom left of MPE interface].

Barry,
Your SFC & Dism results make me wonder if your installation could be repaired instead of doing a clean install.
For one thing, a Repair install [which, despite its name, is a repair not an...
No. They are giving you bad advice.
Your Windows 11 licence is also a Windows 10 licence. You do not need to buy anything.
You can make a Windows 10 installation disk of your own [as we all do...
Yes.
A system image of the disk containing a fully working Windows OS will restore exactly the same fully working Windows OS.
And system images are much more reliable than Restore points.

Yes, as Rick says, PS is also a viable method that will not make TS throw a wobbly.
SchTasks is not deprecated in Windows 11. And its built-in Help [SchTasks /?] is the same in both OSes.
Denis
A Task scheduler task that temporarily steals focus would have the effect you describe.
Denis
If you are referring to Task scheduler tasks then I urge you not to try to fiddle with them in the Registry at all. TS gets really awkward if it detects that one of its tasks has been edited...
Perhaps that path is used in an entry within Settings, MultiSync, Customise

If you are still in WinPE then that message merely means they cannot run in WinPE.
Being portable does not mean being able to run in non-Windows OSes like WinPE.
Denis
The steps involving the system image & file backup are to be done now.
- I am not suggesting you restore a system image to your future computer.
- The image & file backup are just to allow you to...
