Thanks for the link, I ran the .bat file but still didn't solve my problem.

I have that option turned off, no recent files/folders show up in Start menu, but they are still showing in the taskbar.

Well, by unchecking auto-hide it went away, so I wasn't sure if I should've marked it solved or not.
