Mine's been on a UPS and no storms that I know about but it could have happened.
I'm just gonna move on.
Maybe the Russians did it. :)

So everyone went to bed and I reset to factory defaults, downloaded ASUSwrt-Merlin, got me back up running AND SAVED THE CONFIGURATION!
Thanks everyone. Still scratching my balding head trying to...
No, I wasn't that smart. In all my years of nerding, I never thought about it. You're never too old to learn new tricks.
So how do I create a backup of my settings if I can't get into it?
I never even thought of saving it when things were working well. If and when I get things running right, I will do.
I've got visitors this weekend so everyone is using the internet so I'm going to wait until they're gone to reset things.
And I've tried asus.router.com (sorry I didn't mention it) and it does the...
I've tried a number of other IP addresses with no luck though even ASUS Discovery program finds the router at 192.168.1.1.
It's my own router and not the ISP. I'm with Cox and I doubt they'd even be...
Tried a straight cable from pc to router with no luck. Read suggestions for 2 hours and nothing has changed. My fear of resetting is if it still won't let me get into the router, how can I make the...
Thanks, I've done everything but a reset so far. I do have Kapersky Internet Security installed but I've allowed everything in but even other computers on the network (those not running Kapesky...
Everything seems to work fine with my router. Internet, email, wifi etc. all are working but today I noticed I can't connect to my router using 192.168.1.1
I check ipconfig and that is the...
I never even knew Windows had that option. :)
I'd like to know exactly what it does so I'll google it and see if there is more info on this. Thanks for the tip.
When my problems, or challenge first started, I found a little program that sniff's IP address and is very simple. Once it finds the computers on the network, I can see, view and use programs just...
Thanks again. I did have it set just for folders and it makes no difference. I'll try the second option and see how it goes.

Just a few examples. Before trying the suggestions here, I couldn't even see the computer and now I can see all the shared drives. But, as you can see, I'm locked out.
I think I'm going to take a break on this for a bit as it really isn't all that important to me. Just my nerdy OCD that says, "this should work, why doesn't it". I think this afternoon I'll have...
Honestly, I don't see any difference once I use Computer Management to share.I can see the other shares each folder still gives me the Access Denied message. There are folders that do work, just not...
I've been a bit pissed about some of the things MS has done as they try to bully their way around their operating system. I feel I've got less control.
Just an example: I have one PC set up as a...
Uh Oh! This morning I'm back to where I was where access is denied again. Seems the hosts files had the # in front of the IP addresses on both computers even though they were saved. Fix it and I'm...
Roger that. Big thanks DrFrog! Beers for you too!
I got my son to do this for me while I'm out of town and it worked! Wow, the thought of the host file never, ever even entered my mind.
pbcopter, thanks for the great fix and thanks Access Denied...
Ha, I remoted in and it appears that at least one of my systems has nothing at all in the host file but I will definitely try this out when I am back home.
I'm having some good laughs about all of...
It's a damn shame that you have to do this to get this working properly.
I didn't even think about assigning IP's. I had already done that years ago but I guess it's possible that my static IP could have changed to something else. I'll check when I'm back in town and see...
After I made the FDRP automoatic, I was then able to see other computers but still could not access them. That's when I get the Acess Denied messages. So, that step did so something for me.
The...
Late getting back but have been busy. I did the above and in the end, both computers came back with the same "Windows requires more information to diagnose the problem-not fixed" message. I'll keep...
Yes, it is set to Private.
