All good now since clean install of build 10162. As a matter of fact. Build 10162 is the best so far. All issues I have been raising all been resolved.
Running W10 on an original Dell Vostro...
After I updated from build 10130 to build 10159, I no longer can select Mail or Calendar apps to display Detailed / Quick Status to my lock screen because neither are listed in the drop-list. What...
GEWB, what flavor (version) of Samba is delivered in that distribution? That might be the difference in why it works for you and not me and others. I'm using Fedora 20 and CentOS 6.5 which came with...
Something tells me that Microsoft will not find it in their best interest to make NetBIOS backward compatible with XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Samba3 platforms. They have moved on to implementing...
Kari,
What Linux distro are you using? What version of Samba do you have installed (ver3.x, ver4.x)? Is your Linux PC acting as a Samba client or Samba server in your network configuration?
A Knowledge Base article was given to me that specifically states what is happening on my home network. An old bug that somehow was reintroduce into Windows 10, maybe? And since I have no DNS running...
You post is right on point that Microsoft has changed the behavior of how simple file/printer sharing works. Specifically on how it handles send/recv over port 139. See this thread.

Amen! Don't bring that crap Aero back...
Whoops. Disabling the port kind of worked. It was better to set the rules to block port 139 requests. Both inbound and outbound. It's very apparent now that MS changed something in the way...
I just can't let it go. :-) And this is yet another reason for me to dump XP. I put all the network parameters back in their original states. Then on the Windows 10 PC, I specifically disabled port...
That's good everything worked out. I thought I had the solution but was tripped up the next day. I narrowed my problem down to NetBIOS over TCP/IP from the XP Pro SP3 laptop. Something to do with how...
Hmmm, I was hoping to get some takers on my question. But I guess not too many people are using XP anymore. I still the XP PC because I'm just cheap. I have, through hours of trial and error, found...
Well, I've just about configured everything I need for Windows 10. Last is file sharing. It's the same old story with Microsoft sharing. See from one, can't see from another. I'm not using homegroup....
So you never have to go through what I described?
I have some questions related to the issue discussed here. I understand MS explanation for the need of the two-step verification. But why can't I disable it? Why can't I set my own code to be used...
I'm using Win10 on my Del Vostro 1000. It's my main laptop. I must say and give credit to Dell for making the Vostro a very flexible machine. It was pre-installed with XP Home when purchased in 2007....
I was experiencing this same situation on my Dell Vostro 1000. I can now report that disabling Fast Startup resolved the cold boot-up issue. Thanks
Nice desktop but what are you running at the bottom right above the taskbar?
I too was taken aback by having to login to the laptop with my Live Account. I then discovered this thread and created a local account. But I then discovered a glitch being I could not install apps...
"Performance Options -> Visual Effects -> Show Windows Contents While Dragging" enables window snapping. Now that I know that, I can turn off other visual effects I don't want to use.
Oh wait. I just turned on all the settings in Performance Options -> Visual Effects. That did it.
Sure do. Had up to seven and with multiple desktops.
No. The task view (alt+tab) I get. But at 02:56 Joe talks about Windows Snap. That's the feature I'm not getting. It appears he is grabbing the windows title bar and dragging it to the screen edge...
Did I miss something or did the windows snap feature miss to first build. The feature is not functioning on my laptop.
