Thanks for the advice. I use Brave browser but I use it on my Windows 7 laptop as well, and I get the dialog box warning on that computer for all web saves where there is a duplicate.
No dialog box at all. It does display the file name with (1) or (2) etc at the end which can indicate it may be a duplicate.
Your signature didn't work.
Mine has never done that for me and that is my issue. Hopefully after a restart it works.
In earlier versions of Windows, if you clicked "save image as" on an image from a web page or any other source it gave the alert if it was an identical file/image to an existing file in the...
Thanks.
Their is no reason whatsoever that this would not work, but unfortunately I just tested it with Telegram and a typical webpage and it didn't work.
Maybe it needs a restart in order to...
In Windows 7 and earlier, if you attempted to save a photo from a webpage and an identical file was already in the folder it alerted you to that fact. In windows 10 it just saves a second copy with a...
I have often disabled a program or process by just moving the .exe from the usual location and quarantining it in another folder or even on an external drive. I currently have Edge in quarantine lol....
Yes I understand it is a script, which automates the process so to speak. But ultimately that script is either modifying the registry or disabling/modifying services or tasks.
Does it modify the registry or disable specific services?
I'm staying on 20H2. I still have a perfectly operable Windows 7 laptop despite (or likely because of) disabling Windows update as soon as I got the laptop all those years ago.
Windows would have...
It seems from the Microsoft description of this update its sole purpose is to undo any workarounds a user may have to prevent windows updating. It is Microsoft basically saying "we will do whatever...
I have S3 standby, but Windows prefers you keep internet connectivity during sleep anyway. I have also unticked "Allow this device to wake the computer" for my network adapter in device manager.
I have "network connectivity in standby" disabled in Advanced power management options. If I put my computer to sleep I want it to stay well asleep until I decide to wake it up.
For the mouse, go to Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > Properties > Power Management - and untick "Allow this device to wake the computer".

If you regularly use Photoshop and Autocad then more RAM is likely to be of significant benefit. Check your computer hardware as suggested to confirm compatibility.
No that is one method I have not tried but thought held promise.
I will look into what I did try and didn't work and note that in the relevant tutorial. Windows Automatic Updates Manager is one...
Yes but they don't work on 20H2 and as such the tutorials are becoming obsolete. Group Policy for home works for many settings but not to configure Windows Update.
Either way, the simple method of...
I know I'm late for the party but I thought I should share something I have discovered on my 20H2 system in regards to pausing updates.
In order to control windows update I have enabled Group...
Pause Windows Update before you run it or connect to the internet.
Then run wushowhide and it will search for any driver updates Windows intends to run at the next update. This gives you the...
There is one way and I mentioned it earlier in the thread but it seems it wasn't noticed. Read my earlier reply for more information.

Hi Martinx2
I use wushowhide to block Windows update from updating the drivers I want to manage myself. It is a very small program made by Microsoft and doesn't need installation.
Just run it...
You don't need to install it. Just run it and tick any device drivers you do not want Windows to update. This needs to be done before windows applies the update, or after rolling back/uninstalling...
Windows Update broke my AMD Radeon software GUI as well as removing all original AMD drivers. This happened several times until I figured out what was happening. I used wushowhide to block Windows...
I've had my laptop for two months now and the option has been greyed out the whole time. It seems like Microsoft like to decide what is best for us.
