Yes you got it exactly right, also with HDA I can switch sound from Realtek icon on taskbar, don't have to plug or unplug anything.

I have just ordinary speakers, stereo + woofer (no separate connection) but they sound great. Headphones are just cheap ones used mostly for Voip. I just like the way I can switch and adjust them...

Simple, .rar is not unrararing so to speak. message says that there's an error in packed file. every other .rar file opens, even last DL of 8710.

I suggest you start by clearing old drivers with DDU Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.1.1 and downloading original drivers from HP site.

Just updated from 8648 to 8673 and first time in a while I hear any difference.

CODEC/DAC chip is but one part, there are also varying circuits around it, preamp, filters etc, I doubt they can put all those to be of high quality in a laptop.
