With an external enclosure, you have the internal connectors, the power and data cables.
If you drop it or knock it off the computer desk... the drives are dead.

With a solid state external...

I'm not a big fan of external enclosures. Too many parts to break.

These days external drives are almost as fast as internals.
But... with externals,...

I would advise against that.
Use the portable version on CrystalDiskInfo, and just click on it, when you want to see the status of your drive.

In most cases the KB5034441 failure (error) was because people's drives...

Just ordered this... $17.50 total for cleaning up the epoxy fillets on my rockets.
The ones with regular glue are easy to do by hand with sand paper. The epoxy fillets need a bit of power assist....
