Hi pentagon,
I'm back, have read post #130, and the link therein, and have a few queries on that post:
- what am I looking for with the 'before you do anything' scannow command?
- Queensway talks...
I understand. But I have no idea how to go about getting a new winre.wim. In terms of replacing it, simply re-name the old one .old, and copy the latest one to that recovery directory? But they...
OK. I'll report the result either way.

If I have to exchange/replace the old winre.wim, why not do it now? and how do I do that?
I was out for 10 mins, evening pee break for the dog.

The enable operation reported success.
The osloader operation was long enough to push that result off-screen. That result is in screenshot 25.

Done. You missed a drive letter at the start of the 2nd xcopy, which I thought might be shorthand, but it didn't work. So I re-did it with the C drive letter included, and that worked.

The 2nd part of post 92 executed - screenshot 19.

Now that the recovery volume seems to be "available', how do I...

I got the same result. It's saying there is no volume specified. Does that mean:
- a partition name should be stated?
- could it be a conflict with the unlettered EFI partition on the same disk?...
We got past the disk/par items, and it broke on the assign command, screenshot 17. I keep trying to show the cmd screen against your instruction, but it gets displayed wrong on the thread, sorry...
The screenshot was of post #98 background, but the script as advised..
Tried again, got the same result. re-booted, tried again, same result.
Mystifying, because that detail previously worked, see...
The script broke at sel par 4, see screenshot
result of the dir cmd attached
that system32 folder is pretty big - what should I be looking for?
Updated
result of last cmd sequence attached (image 14)
The run command was not recognised in cmd. But I ran the rest of it, results in screenshot 12. Re-checked the previous recovery folder with the Treesize utility and there is a major change in the...
Pentagon,
I followed the script, but got an unsuccessful message at the end. See screenshot. Found that I had missed the format line. I used the acronis disk director 12 tool to format that...
Hi pentagon,
thanks for the reply. A query/clarification: disk 4 is GPT, not disk 3. All the rest are MBR. How that happened: the system had a motherboard failure. the repair/re-build included...
Disappointing news. I am one of those who were waiting it out for an MS solution . . .
So, the current state of my win10 22h2 machine is:
- there is no separate recovery partition (screenshot...
I have a planned backup cycle for the upgraded PC in 5 days (1st of the month routine). So how do I remove the left-over prior OS files? I'd rather not include them in the backup file.
All the advice I got was re-install windows, which is what I was trying to do. And use 7z (in lieu of 'mount') is what I ultimately did . . .
