Virtual Machine? I don't use any.
Found the culprit though. Actually it was my fault. I had done the workaround for preventing the update of the Oculus software (renaming a folder and adding two...
Guys, thank you, but i just narrowed it down the hard way. :D
I researched and found a program called OBS Studio. I captured my desktop on video until it happened. Then i viewed the video at 50%...
Thanks! I thought that maybe there is a software that can log what is starting and closing, and if i see the taskbar flashing, i can quickly look what it was.
I haven't found anything unusual in...
A couple of days ago i started having a weird and annoying issue. I've done malware-scans with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, so i'm sure it's not something evil. Besides, i'm always very careful...
Now we're talking. I didn't know that. Thanks for this vital information. The task indeed needs admin rights, i tested it manually.
Hmm, it's a Wacom driver 64bit for Windows 7. Do you think...
I apologize, i've been on the wrong track. The error message was because i tried to run the task even without log-on. I've corrected the original post - i hope it's clearer now and that someone has...
Pls read the updated description. Thanks!
The task is simple. Run silently a driver install EXE at log-on. I'm solving a problem where the driver is not seen after restart, so i have to always run the installer every time i reboot. But it...
[Corrected description of the problem]
In the past i always used an Admin account without problems. Now i changed this User to a non-admin account and the scheduled task that was previously always...
Well, well, well... I went full retard in the Task Scheduler and deleted a bunch of stinking MS related spying tasks, and... there we go. No popup anymore. At least i can't reproduce it, all of a...
UPDATE: I cought it. Finally. Had to record a video with my DSLR, and even then it lasted only 2 frames at 30fps! :what:

It's a schtasks.exe, apparently the task scheduler. Albeit i found...
Oh, it was. The window was open on the left side of my 27" monitor all the time. :)
But strangely, the popup left no trace in the log.
I managed to take a glimpse at the task manager while the popup happened. In the processes tab, sorted by CPU%, at the top was Service Host: Local System (14). I'm switching to Details, maybe it will...
Well, it happened again at 0:00, so it seems to start every 6 hours. But unfortunately Process Lasso did not show anything in the log! Is this strange?
Wow, theoretically this should allow me to take care of the problem. I'll try it out and report back.
In the event log the closest i found was these two things. Do these give any ideas?

Yup, did that already, see my opening posting. But thanks.
I have the newest version of Win10. The issue may have started a while after the big update in November.
I'll try that, thanks.
UPDATE: No luck, there's nothing in the event log for the time when the popup occurred (18:00:1x). Damn.
Since a couple of weeks now i have the command prompt popping up every hour or two. It's just a flicker, gone so fast that i cannot read what is causing the popup (the prompt seems empty btw).
I...
Wow, Navuho, i had the same problem and it was driving me mad. I'm totally anal about my window positions. Glad i found this thread - you saved me from much anger, my friend.
Never mind, got it working.
It's a real PITA. Not only is it extremely difficult to assign default programs (either no option for "default" or it just doesn't take my choice) for different media, but once assigned, Win10 later...
