so i performed a dism command thru an admin command prompt from the desktop...everything went fine in...
it said i couldnt install into the D: root directory rather into a sub folder which gave me an undesired result especially when i wanted to move everything into the root...

I think the boot files on the XP drive are missing somehow cos windows doesn't see it as system or anything:(
maybe its just a matter of copying the XP boot files from the cd onto the D partition?
