Yay!!!! As of today "Show hidden icons" is now functional again, must have issued a fix in the last update.

Ok my bad ..... problem solved.....forgot I had bumped up the display to 125% when I left the laptop for my sister in law to use last weekend! DOH!!! Thought things looked bigger than I remembered.
