As per my own experience it shouldn't be 0 (zero) but it must be deleted completely. Look at the content of my registry for that key:

Some versions of the Synaptics driver don't show 3 and 4 fingers options. In my case, Synaptics 7.5 v 19.2.4, there is only option for 2 fingers. In this case, only going to the System Registry...
