it worked for a day...
now i get the same message for every single one i open...
i always put them in system
but for windows 10 they worked in system 32
so i moved them all to system 32...
...
i always put them in the system folder
that's where they are...
as soon as i copied them to the system 32 folder
they worked... that did it... thanks...
when i run one i get a message saying a component is missing
like it does with a dll file...but i have all of them...
interesting... cause when i went to run one
windows update popped up and said
i needed to install ntvdm so i did
and it said it was ok...
they ran ok on windows 7...
i have windows 3.1...
hi... i installed vdm on my 32 bit windows 10
to run 16 bit windows programs
have all the dlls in the windows system folder
rebooted... and the programs still won't run...
says something is...
amazing!
i just opened a few folders and scrolled the others
a few times and they were all ok...
i tried moving a few folders to a new one
and it seemed to work fine for the first few...
i tried playing around with the views and scrolling back and forth
and it seemed to fix some of them that...
thanks... the first one was medium view...
it doesn't seem to matter what view it is
they're mixed in every view except for small
while some folders are fine...
it's different every folder......
hi... thanks shawn for answering...
it only seems to affect folders i've already looked at
...but not all of them... before two days went by...
when i went back to them they looked like...
hi... i have like ten thousand icons in folders i have saved
all of a sudden when i open a folder the icon sizes are all different...
large is medium and medium is medium and small
and the sizes...
thank you... it worked...
i always used open with to set the default
cause like you said using the program to do it
doesn't seem to work anymore...
and ran into this...
so i used set...
here's a zip file i made
containing the winhlp32.exe from windows XP
i've been using for a year
along with instructions on how to replace it...
it works for me even on x64...

edit:...
i just bought a laptop a few days ago with the new 1511 on it
and had the same thing with the same kind of files...
even more... i can't change the icons...
i use VLC for mpeg files... did open...
here are a few quotes from the windows 7 forums:
and:
that's just what i did...
i have one computer with windows 10 on it
this one...
i have win 10 and it's ok as long as you
delete, uninstall all the modern apps that spy on you
go into the privacy settings and all the other places
and turn off everything you can...
and block...
...
thank you... just tried it...
has anybody tried this?
look how quick they dropped support for ME...
i just bought a pc so i could have windows 7 on it...
can you just disable windows updates altogether?
you used to be able to do it on 98...
block,...
i'm still using 10240...
every one of their apps wants your internet connection....
even the photo app and the videos and the xbox
and the bing stuff and the ads and all their friends...
and...
have you tried the library? that's where i used to go...
what i meant was...
i imagine there's a lot of people who don't
and they'll probably try and just give up
and put 10 on it like i did...
which goes along with the story...
thanks... didn't know that...
could have had win7... oh well... got 10...
how many people know this?
i'll stick with 10240 as long as i can...
interesting.... when i downloaded 8.1 a few months ago
it was called Windows.iso and that's all...
i tried to install xp on this 8.1 notebook
but the install button was greyed out...
isn't it...
i also found that if you use classic shell
you can uninstall all of these
just by right clicking...
some of these you can't... like this...
50995
but it looks nice just to see it...
