-1 copy of Windows, e.g. Win 7 Ultimate

Start with Win 7 Ultimate on PC 1. Upgrade to Windows 10.
Transfer Win 7 Ultimate to PC 2. Upgrade to Windows 10.

You using the 14.5...... Intel ones from their site?

I can't get the 14.5... or 14.0... ones to install, just get "Platform not supported", but the 12.9 ones installed fine, and no crashes for me....

If I were you Disk image laptop HDD in current-state.
a) - via Macrium reflect boot CD onto external HDD
b) - remove laptop HDD and connect to another PC/laptop e.g. with dock or USB-SATA adapter

Windows 10 <--- Downloads a tool you can use to generate your own ISO.

and

Windows 10 ISO <--- Downloads the ISO straight from MS...
