I've been using an Ethernet cable the entire time, it still doesn't pick up a connection, worked fine as soon as I rolled back to the old version then would stop again after updating. I tried...
I previously would have thought I can handle it, but after current events I think better safe than sorry right? So if you could instructions would be wonderful please!
Thanks and no worries, it's a shame but I'm a very talented musician and composer so I'll just make new music. You've been excellent help so far and I know you did all you could to help.
I think...
When selecting the option to roll back to an old version it told me I had to delete the new account that was made in the new version. This was odd as I made the new account in the old version, so I...
Well unfortunately it's just deleted my main account and all its data. So I have no previous version to return to or restore points....and still no internet access in this version.
There goes 7...
So before I delete the NIC and driver, run the setup for the driver and then reboot?
Or delete the MIC and driver, reboot then run the setup for the new driver
Sadly no I haven't any NIC's I could swap to. I suppose all that's left to try is reverting back and using that trick when it forces me to update or to do a clean install.
Sorry slipped my mind in...
So to clarify I want to go to device manager,
Highlight realtek PCIe and select disable device,
Run the setup on the driver again, select remove and then let it install?
Alright tried the first suggestion of hitting diagnose and following the Windows. Still displayed not fixed sadly.
Will do, not quite sure how to navigate to the shown section though. I've been their before but forget how.
Problems found
There might be a problem with the driver for the Ethernet adapter
Try these repairs as administrator
Not fixed
That's what happens when I run the troubleshooter
Installed the drivers again after selecting remove option. Still no connection :(
Nope still no connection after rebooting

I have run the exe setup, just to make sure I select the repair option? It's offering me modify, repair and remove
Edit - chose that option and it says it's installed, rebooting now.
Just back home with the driver. Yeh both are still on system and the extra account is also still present.
Also the scan is complete and it says Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
Ah thank you very much. So I just download that top option in the table linked, stick it on a Usb then pop it on mine?
Ok I have rebooted after option 2. Still no joy I'm afraid. Running my sfc scan now and will let you know as soon it's done
Option 2 has been tried. It reinstalled Realtek PCIe GBE family controller after I scanned for hardware changes. Should I reboot again? Also the I forgot to say, when I open cmd prompt and use sfc...
Ok tries option 1 and no luck sadly, still offline an unable to even detect router. Also funnily enough restarting the system brought back that 3rd account. Trying option 2 now.
On the page which says 'select device driver you want to install for this hardware' it lists 2 options
Realtek PCIe GBE family controller (microsoft)
And the second option is the exact same...
Sorry this was a double post for some reason.
I suppose it is, strange but I guess I never bothered to update as long as it was working fine.
