Okay, so while I had the bottom cover off I thought I'd try a fix from another forum I read and one which my daughter suggested too. So I took the BIOS battery out and disconnected the laptop...

Had a quick look but appears you have to take the whole bottom cover off. Not a job to do after a few scotches so will have a go in the morning. You look as though you've pulled an allnighter too....
