I think I adopted the user name as a reaction to my first broadband ISP, e7Even, who "gave" with a very cheap offer and then "took away" a few months later by landing me in a walled garden. Took ages...
I almost fell off my chair at the thought that Microsoft might fix this! How many years have they had to do that?
FWIW, Autoruns showed the Microsoft Office 2000 Component still ticked under the...
It was too good to last! Just happened again, for first time in weeks. The Office 2000 component that seemed to have been causing the problem by being enabled at startup remains disabled so something...
Still fine,.so I will mark as solved. Thanks to everyone who offered advice.
Just an update. The problem has not (yet) reoccurred since I disabled the automatic startup of the Office 2000 component.
That should hex it nicely.
The command line is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.exe -b -l
I have disabled it. Let's see what happens!
Oh, and thanks for the guidance...
I have drowned in the Event Viewer before now! IIRC most of the error warnings are fake news, which is why scammers like to frighten you with it. What I will do, I think, is wait for another...
I've run malware checks and I am up to date on Windows updates.I am on Office Pro v2012 Build 13530.20316 Click-to-run and should get updates automatically. As the error has been reported over...
Nope, haven't got fast startup.
I see I managed to mess up the error code - should have read 0xc0000142 of course.
This is evidently a problem which has afflicted different versions and builds of Windows for some years. All the threads seem to be oldish.
Every now and again I get this error when trying to open...
Solution!
On another forum, I was (slowly!) persuaded that this wasn't about Windows as such but that some utility must have been giving me the capacity to access additional PDF metadata. I...
To update on this...
While Sendkeys "works" up to a point, it depends very much on the right window being open at the right time, which in practice seems to mean putting in Application.Wait...
Most backup software, even free stuff, offers incremental backups without compression. I don't overwrite older versions but presumably that can be done too if wanted.
On a quick inspection, File Association Manager would enable me to add a Title but not to view the Title that already exists. I could be wrong...
... but to my surprise I find I can use good ol'...
Thanks Dalchina.
I'll try that tomorrow, though it will be a very pleasant surprise if I can operate it from within VBA!
Is this a known issue with 1809? Unless there is a security issue with...
This is a bit of a head scratcher.
I am migrating from one PC to the other, both using Windows 10, but different builds. My problem is that I cannot access some of the file metadata from Windows...
Morning all
Thanks for everything. These forums offer good advice and spark off fresh ideas about solving the problems. Even if they don't hit the nail on the head they offer some reassurance the...
I'll start off by saying thanks for all your advice, as I hadn't done earlier.
The restart installed 2018-11 for v1709 and nothing shows a restart needed.
As far as I can see the laptop has all...
To get the simplest thing out of the way first, HD Sentinel reports the hard disk as PERFECT. No point in posting an image of that. The Windows installation is now v1709. This morning it was v1607. So...
Astonishingly, it seems to have just sorted itself out. So I'm happy at the outcome, if not at the obstructions and blind alleys that were in my way. Most of what follows is posted as potential...
Just looked at the link. Laptop came with Win 10 installed so no previous version of Windows to go back to. I'm assuming the link does not cover rolling back to earlier versions of Windows 10.
Thanks, Dalmina
My daughter has (had?) Windows 10 Home. As laptops tend to be, it was bought off the shelf. I always customise my desktops and paid a little bit more for Pro. (After booting from...
Last week my daughter's laptop initiated a Windows Update. This appeared to OK until the restart, when it entered a loop - “Attempting to recover installation”, “Restoring previous version of...
Yes, I saw that when I was checking threads before my Office problem decided to explain itself. Excel 2003 still works for me. Might be worth anyone affected checking add-ins?
I use Excel 2003 a...
Posting for others' information rather than help as it resolved itself, eventually.
After updating to 1803, if I tried to open a Word or Excel document, Windows Installer popped up, trying to do...
