Windows update keeps trying and failing to install .net 5.0.8 (KB5004698) & .net 5.0.10 (KB5006192).

I currently have .net 5.0.11 installed. It should not be trying to install these old updates!...

I tried a couple of times...then let it sit for a while until "check for updates" stopped looking for updates and offered the Optional Quality update.

Probably 10-20 mins duration

I did the update to 21H1 on PC, seemed to go ok.

If I do check for updates it just keeps checking....without doing anything

If I try to shutdown or reboot when it comes back (after a long time)...

It eventually appeared again automagically!

Prior to June patch Tues updated I was offered 21H1 as an optional update

I just looked back through reliability history and noted that 5.0.6 was installed as part of the suit of items on May patch Tuesday.

Looking at the items...

removing the 5.0.6 components seemed to do the trick at least until MS fix it

I just did not want a half baked update stuck when patch Tuesday comes along this week and I was also hoping to move...

Ok so the only way I could fix this was as...

I tried stopping WU update service and renaming "Software Distribution" folder as first step

It seems to have stopped the endless install attempt / fail loop

I will keep my fingers crossed
