If that doesn't work, I'll probably do a clean install.

Thank you Bree for your precise reply, it's set my mind at ease.

Thanks once more - some of my confusion stemmed from the fact that I can no longer burn an ISO Disk, because of their increased size of 4GB+..
I have a USB Drive created recently from MCT, which I...
Thanks again Dalchina, but I'd already tried those 'black screen' links you mentioned, to no avail.
I think I was confused about whether a Repair Install really did retain all information - I'll...
Thank you Dalchina
I checked the disk and it reported:
The hard disk status is PERFECT. Problematic or weak sectors were not found and there are no spin up or data transfer errors. No actions...
Thank you all for your replies.
So far, I've disabled the few items that were set to run at StartUp and checked in Task Manager that all the items with Power Management options were ticked to shut...
Just one final request for help, please...
Hi eddman
I was on 2004 previously and don't believe in 'going back' :-)
'Custom' just means I had it made to my spec. at a local PC assembler - it's a Clevo chassis with tweaks.
And I'm...
Hi Paul
I'd already tried sfc and DISM before I posted here - everything was 'hunky dory'.
***Just a final request for help, before I give up and reset Windows***

Because I don't want to make a bootable USB, I'm okay with a Disk - I only posted in case anyone planning to burn to a DVD might be interested...
Thanks for the reply, but i just can't be arsed with that - I'll use a double layer DVD instead.
