i suspect that my issue is either BIOS or network driver related. Intel is quite good in releasing regular updates, best for me to wait before attempting to upgrade again.

I have installed the latest drivers from Intel for my network card when I was testing 1703. But I might just post the question to Intel support too. Perhaps they need to release a new driver.
