    I used the WinPE environment, both built in and on disc and it made no difference, in fact, it's the ONLY way to get Macrium to restore.

    It's neither of those. The disc and the memory are fine. The "from scratch" installation went like clockwork although it took me six hours to do because I extensively modify Windows 10 for my own use.
