I am very used to these commands as the affected PC was OEM 8 and updated all the way through 8.1's to WIN 10. It was a constant battle keeping WU working as the component store kept having issues. Was home originally but I bought the 8.1 pro key from the MS store. I use Windows Defender and it says no issues. I disabled it and downloaded Malwarebytes and it also found no issues. Will try the dISM strings again tonight but at this point I do not have the esd version as I normally try to download wim's instead. Media Creation Tool is now failing to work to download the esd version. Cleaned my temp files to make sure space was not the issue but still a no-go. As I recalled Bree has downloaded wim's from MS using Safari. I found how to change the user string(F12 button to access developer tools and the drop down menu for Safari) in Edge to do this and downloaded it. Win 10 download page must be open first and it will change allowing you to proceed without MCT. It worked but the download has a install.wim file instead of esd. Win 10 1709 .16299.19 downloaded. I used the "get wim info command string to verify this. I tried DISM with meted connection off Sunday and while attempting it MS downloaded yet another update after I had uninstalled the last two to get back to 16299.19 as the Heidoc download was the that version/edition and I hoped uninstalling them might fix the issue to no avail.

If I'm understanding you correctly, doing a repair with DISM does require the "WIM" version. ESD will not work.

    Example:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:G:\sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

I'm unclear what your issue is. What problem are you having? Running DISM? Getting the correct ISO? Or something else.

since updating to .16299.98 dism /online cleanup-image commands for restorehealth, checkhealth, scanhealth do not work and result in an error code of 193. SCF /scanow and all chkdsk /R,F options work and confirm zero file issues. I downloaded thru heidoc 1709 .16299.19 as that is the latest available to do a repair install. I tried system restore to multiple points before the latest C and all failed. I uninstalled the latest windows updates to revert back to 16299.19 so the created media matched editions/versions and tried to reinstall and it fails at 23%. I will try the DISM strings tonight when I have time using the media as a repair source with limited access as suggested. OS is Win 10 pro updated/upgraded from OEM 8.0 Home thru the 8.1 updates and finally to Win 10 pro. I had purchased an 8.1 update pro key from MS some time before going to Win 10 pro. OS is legal and activated. Just tried MCT to download the MS ISO and it failed so I used the Safari option in Edge to get it. It also is .16299.9. This download is a wim also which is my preference as they can be mounted. It was suggested above to try the restore options with a source and limit access using wim and then trying esd files to see if this would work. I will try these tonight as time allows after work.

I just used the Edge method ( How to get the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update - Page 51 - Windows 10 Forums ) and got 16199.15. If you are getting 16199.19 from your download, that may be a problem. .15 is the "BASE" FCU, .19 is after a cumulative update.

    Hello F14tomcat and zbook,

Unfortunately your suggestions using another source for DISM will not work. I could be wrong, and maybe it will work for GCwizard but I wouldn't bet on this. The only option here concerning this DISM issue is a clean install in my view.

This was mentioned also in the Microsoft forum thread I posted. There is supposingly a way to fix by finding someone who has a working 100% copy of 16299.15 and copying the Windows System32 downlevel folder from their copy to the affected system. Apparently has something to do with .dll files.

Your postings on this is appreciated just so you both know, and thanks for that.

    Regards,

    EG

    You are welcome.
For the 16299 versions, in use on my pc now are .98 and .64.
Sorry that they don't match for the dll.

You are correct. I incorrectly wrote down 16299.19 instead of .15. Just confirmed this with Get-WimInfo command. Sorry.
