Applications seize up temporarily - System task at 30% CPU

In recent weeks I have been noticing frequent events in which my applications (e.g. Chrome) seize up for a short period — perhaps a minute or so — and then start working again. If I manage to switch to the task manager when this is happening I notice that the System task is using around 30% of CPU. This drops down to a more normal level as the applications start working again. It's happening frequently enough to be quite disruptive. Is there something I can do to fix it?

You should install latest version of device drivers from either your computer or device manufacturer website.

Thanks! That would make sense. I've run the Lenovo System Update tool and so far I haven't had any incidents since then. I'll give it a couple of days to make sure that everything is fine and then mark the thread as solved.
