100% Disk Usage, tried some methods found online.

Hi! Basically my laptop running on windows 10 is experiencing 100% disk usage at idle.
I have tried to use resource monitor to find the culprit. Heres what it shows:

Basically it shows that System is causing high disk usage. However at times, resource monitor also showed that svchost.exe is causing high disk usage.

I have tried stopping the DiagTrack service in the services.msc, it did improve the performance of the computer as the computer was less laggy. However, disk usage still remains high at 100% with occasional decrease to 90%.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? I have searched on forums online for solutions to this problem however none of it seems to be working.

    Thanks for ya help!

Hi please work thru the steps here, checking your disk is good, running chkdsk, performing the performance test, etc. and posting the result.

As I've commented there, the transfer rate is too low for that to correctly be a high %ge of disk usage.

The links right at the end after you've dealt with basics look interesting.

I note searchui.exe (that's Cortana, not Windows indexing search) is using a lot of resources.
Searchindexer.exe is part of Windows indexing, however. If it is having difficulty accessing your disk, that might account for that.

    Note:
To post a screenshot (that expands when you click on it as in that thread) please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon. Thanks.

History: how long ago was your disk performance ok?
Have you recently upgraded to Win 10 or a new build of Win 10?

What sort of disk is it? SSD? HDD? SSHD?

Hi! I've realised that windows update was downloading several updates during the time when my post was created, which may have caused the high disk usage. Right now, windows updates have stopped downloading updates and my disk usage has gone down from 100%. (Using the method of stopping DiagTrack in services.msc)

Sorry for the trouble! Thanks for your help still and the links at the end are pretty useful!

*I will definitely take note on posting a screenshot on the forums in the future.

Thanks, I would nonetheless check your disk transfer rate. 100% at 10MB/s or less is wrong. Should be much better.

Note my comments on your two search*.exe processes... and check those again.

Normally you should not expect Windows update downloads to be terribly noticeable and still be able to use your system.

(I have mine set to Notify only, so I only let them download when I approve them - seems to be a Pro upwards only option).

Hmm.. Just found out that at times the disk usage does spike up to 100% at 10mb/s or less when loading webpages or installing new software. Any ideas on what can I do?

    Thanks!

Have you done that (my post#2)? There are some interesting links I posted at the end.
Please post screenshots as you work through it. Variety of possible reasons.

Hi! I will do a disk check and get back to you. I've downloaded Hard Disk Sentinel, but it didnt show any errors.

    Thanks!
Here are links to some pictures of Hard Disk Sentinel which may be useful:

Ok, bear in mind that assuming your disk is physically ok, as it seems to be, these are just basic preliminaries.

Once you've done a clean boot, monitor the task manager and again see if you can get the disk usage to spike at low transfer rates, and post a screenshot of the task man.

Then you can check your disk's performance with Crystal Diskmark. Here's mine:
