CldFlt causes PC to freeze when starting stream

Whenever I try to stream on the HBO Nordic website, my PC freezes and I have to hit the reset button.
I've isolated the issue to the CldFlt driver, event ID 7000 in the event logger.

On the linked thread below there are workarounds for similar issues (check the end of page 1 and beginning of page 2 in the link), however those issues are related to Windows starting up, and not a streaming services launching in a browser, hence their solution targets registry values concerning Windows boot, therefore why their solution may not work for me.
To be clear: I have no issues until I'm in the browser and I start buffering a stream on HBO Nordic website - then it freezes.

wich win 10 do you have installed? Anniversary update? the new Creators update?
The error may also relate to the following error while starting the CldFlt service.

    1. Open Registry Editor
    2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CldFlt
    3. Find Start registry REG_DWORD and modify its data by setting the value data to 3 from 2. Click OK

Thanks for the reply! I'm on Creators Update. I've seen somewhere that this freeze was introduced with that update.
I checked in the Registry Editor, but the Start registry was already set to 2.

EDIT: Nevermind I read your post wrong, I'll set it to 3 and see if that works.

    UPDATE: Tried it, still freezes

    Hi,

You could try setting the registry value to 4. That should disable the service completely.
If it does not resolve the problem then it may be caused by something else.

    Cheers,

I did some more googling and found that it seems to be linked to OneDrive, via the CldFlt service somehow. I didn't try changing the registry value to 4, but uninstalling OneDrive seems to work so far. I'll give a few days before concluding it as solved.

UPDATE: The issue came back, so uninstalling OneDrive made no long term improvement. Changing the registry value to 4 didn't help.

I updated to Fall Creators Update, hoping it would have been patched. First time it worked without freezing, but after I restarted the PC I got back to square one again, and the freezing continues. I've tried toggling between registry value 2 and 4 again, with no luck.

Luckily I'm able to stream HBO without freezes on my laptop, so I guess I'll have to stick to that for now when streaming on that site.
