How do you create a bootable disk? (asked by OP)

    with thanks to @NavyLCDR
To reliably make a bootable USB flash drive from an ISO file, do this:

Plug the drive into a USB port of a functioning Windows PC.

    Open a command prompt.
    Run diskpart.

Once diskpart is running, enter the following commands in sequence:

    list disk
    select disk #
    - replace # with the actual disk number of the USB flash drive
    clean
    - this will erase the selected drive, make sure it is the USB flash drive!
    create part pri
    format fs=fat32 quick
    active
    exit
    exit

    Then mount your ISO file.
(By default you can simply right click the iso file, and click Mount. However, Mount will not be available if iso files have been associated with a different program).

Copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash drive.

(If stuck you can open the iso with 7-zip, a free program).

Reinstall Windows 10 from DVD but no DVD drive[/U][/URL]
    - includes content of flash drive.

    3. Use a tool such as Rufus- although some people find that less obvious than the above instructions as here (Option 2)

    - but use the iso for Kyhis's, of course.

    Suggests your disk has problems.

Try the Error Scan tab and run a surface test.

If that fails to give a result, try HDD Scan (that does both SMART and a surface scan if you fiddle with its quite simple GUI).

Your PC can fail at any time in any way... any part of your data could become corrupt. You would never know when and you may always be experiencing erratic problems. Hard disks are build to cope with small numbers of sectors failing... but at the end of life, too many fail.

Rescue what you can now from it, to an external disk, and buy a new one. Treat yourself- upgrade to a SSD if your PC's worth it..

You will have to reinstall Windows.

You're completely missing the point. Imagine you're car is in the garage. You know rust is eating into it, and it wouldn't start. You've cleaned some connections and put them back together, and managed to get it to start.

A few days later, you're 300 miles away on the motorway, and the engine dies. Or a wheel falls off. Or an indicator stops working. Or you've no brakes.

Hey, it's your PC-- you're free to do with it as you will. Good luck..
