    memory leak, win 10 home

I am posting this saga in the hopes that it might help someone else, and in the hopes that some expert can tell me how to further help the situation. Although I have solved the problem enough to make the system usable, my solution is less than ideal.

My wife's computer runs Win10 Home, with the most recent updates installed (build 19041.450). We recently noticed a problem in it getting very unresponsive, requiring a shut down and restart. As I began to investigate, I found that memory usage was increasing from 2G to 8G (the max) at which time system ground to a halt. I found a number of suggestions on the web, e.g. update all drivers -- and followed them one at a time, but none solved the problem. Finally, I came across a suggestion to do a safe start and see what happened.

Doing that showed me that with none of the "nonessential" services started resulted in no memory leak. I began the quest of finding out which services might be the culprit and found two. The worst one was "Printer extension and Notifications". If it was started, memory was quickly eaten up. Another was "WLAN Autoconfig" which caused a slower leak, leading to lockup in less than 24 hours. My method was to activate services a bunch at a time and see what happened. If no memory leak, go on to the next bunch. If memory leak, cut the bunch in half and try again until I find the single service causing a problem.

Turns out that I believe I can do without the Printer service -- printer works without it.

BUT, I cannot do without the WLAN service, I need it to get WiFi.

So, in order to keep her computer usable, I put in a task in the task scheduler to have her computer do a restart every 12 hours at times when she is unlikely to be using it. This works, but it would be great if someone had a better idea.

BTW, reading some other threads related to memory leaks, it was said that non paged memory was important. I believe that most if not all of the additional leak is in non paged memory -- but I do not know how to track down that usage in any detail.

Four days, lots of views -- but no response. Doesn't anyone have some suggestions as to how to stop the memory leaks, especially of the essential service named "WLAN autoconfig"??

I have an issue that is different but the solution may be an idea that will work for yours. I sometimes have a Wireless lose connection to the Router on a Notebook. It has an 802.11ac adapter but my Router is a Gigabit with 802.11n Wireless. Simply turning off the Wireless on the Notebook, which gets Airplane mode, then back on gets it back to working, usually for hours at a time. Since I keep the icon for Network visible in the Notification Area it's not a hard thing to do, wondering if Task Scheduler could handle it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but switching to airplane mode had no effect on the excess memory loss due to the leak.
