Windows 10 using 98% process in AMD E1-2100 HP 15 laptop

    Hello guys,
I recently updated my laptop from win 8.1 to 10 for "mobile hotspot feature". after upgrading it my system process runs at 98% always. everything lags so much. my system features are below:
HP 15 notebook, 4GB ram, AMD E1-2100 APU with radeon hd graphics 512mb. 500gb HDD.
    1) Kindly let me know how to reduce the process from 98% usage.
    2) any ways to stop cortana from running cos i dont want it.
    3) do i need to increase my ram and will my laptop support 16gb ram total. i have 2 slots one is with 4gb and another i'm planning to increase it either to 8gb or 4gb from your sugestions.
    Thanks,

Hate to tell ya but that CPU is pretty bad. 1 Ghz and its dual core. I doubt it will accept 16 GB of RAM, You might be better off buying a new laptop, as that model is a pretty low on the totem pole for performance.

I don't use laptops and can't recommend one, but I wouldn't bother adding to the RAM. You've got 4 GB now, which is enough to run Win 10 decently IF IF IF you had a decent processor. But you don't.

Your processor scores 869 on the Passmark CPU benchmark. You can find $350 laptops that score over 3000 on that benchmark.

Let others suggest the best laptop. With luck, you might be able to get something with an Intel i-3 or stronger processor--which should be a significant improvement--even with only 4 GB of RAM.

I have just finished cleaning up and Upgrading that model from Version 1607 to Version 1703, went pretty well. Only issue it has is the 1GHz CPU, slow and may prevent some usage that requires a faster CPU. Also, it has a slot/socket for an ODD/Optical Disk Drive but only particular submodels had the drive available. Checking the slot shows a 'standard' Notebook drive is too thick to fit, probably would need to take it out of one of the thinner portable USB drive cases. HP doesn't show a compatible drive [client expressed interest in getting one] but it will work with a portable that used the Y-cable in the 2 USB ports on the left edge of the case. I have the dvd557s drive and it works on her Notebook, at least to play music discs.

What you are using there is like driving a Geo Metro with the 3cyl engine in it. It will get you around, but has no ability to do anything demanding. These CPUs are made for netbooks and subnotebooks. Things that the heaviest usage will be is watching youtube videos. If you need something sub $300, look at eBay.

Dell Precision M4600 - $199 with free shipping this thing would absolutely decimate what you are currently using. Only downside is its a chunk of a laptop and is kinda heavy.

Dell Latitude E6430 - $229 with free shipping
Another great machine. This one is a bit more expensive because its newer (Ivy bridge i7 vs a Sandy bridge i7.)

The advantage of the Precision is it has dedicated graphics in the form of a Quadro K2000M, which is a workstation class card, not a gaming class.

These are just examples of what can be gotten. Do some looking. IF you are not certain, post links back here to what looks good to you. We could help you determine what you would need.

Sure guys, i will search and come up with some links.
My option 2 is if i'm unable to opt out a new higher config laptop, i'm planning to degrade my OS to win 8. only thing i will be missing is the mobile hotspot.
    Thanks,KB

Try Windows 7. Has about the same support ending schedule as 8.1 does. Drivers might be an issue but I'll look around.

What about reseting Windows 10? I have the feeling you have something in there that is hogging your processor... I've seen really bad celerons running W10 fairly decent...
