    Cannot Boot up

Win 10 home 64 bit (upgrade from win 7)

Just turned on a normal and the laptop will not boot. It is not dead, the Windows logo appears and below it the circle of dots going round, and that's as far as it gets. Feels like it's looking for something.

Managed to get into recovery environment and tried the following options all of which failed:

    System Restore
    Repair start up
Re-install windows losing apps and settings but retaining personal files.

That's the extent of my ability! I have data/files back up but not a full system back up. I would prefer to continue where I left off with all settings and programs intact.

I have another laptop running WIn 10 pro 64 bit

I think I need to somehow get boot up files back onto the broken machine.

Dont know what to try next.

Have you left any USB devices connected like external hard drives or dongles for wireless mouse &/or keyboard? These can prevent boot from continuing.
Also how long are you waiting for the device to boot, I've known mine to take 5-10 minutes to go from the PC Specialist logo to desktop - this happens very rarely though.

nothing external attached. Waited over an hour.

Can get a command prompt through system repair, but when I run bootrec.exe /fixmbr it says successfull but still will not boot up.

    That's exhausted my expertise.

Try removing the main battery for several minutes if you know how to do this then replace the battery and try to boot again. Also, try loading the BIOS defaults.

This thread tells you how to make a bootable recovery drive have various useful utilities Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

There may be something here which helps. Many people recommend creating a bootable Macrium Reflect recovery drive and using that to repair startup problems - although I have never used this method.

All of the repair options mentioned above are for fixing problems in the boot files which load Windows. Since the computer is getting to the Windows logo screen with the spinning dots, the problem is not with the boot files and the above repair options will not work. It is probably a hardware driver issue and the first step would be to see if you can boot into safe mode:

Then see if you can boot using a clean boot:
