Unbearable performance drop in Windows 10

    hello!

the problem im currently facing is on my 2nd machine:
    i5 3230m 2.6ghz
    gt 720m 2gb
    500hdd
    4gb ram
    windows 10 home single language

it was originally running a windows 8/8.1. but i decided to install windows 10 since i prefer it. but it wasnt a clean install, it was the upgrade from the notifications bar that microsoft offered. so everything was in tact but the operating system.

it is noticeable that windows 10 boot times are way slower than windows 8, sometimes it hangs for quite some time, and there are time when clicking start menu/wifi/action centre would take more than 10 seconds to pop up. thats how slow it is performing. let alone opening apps like chrome, words etc.

i've done a lot of defragments and the outcome is not that much of a difference. im on the latest windows 10 as of now. my question is, will clean install help me overcome this situation? or it is simply hardware related?

    thanks for any insightful feedbaacks.

This is one of the primary reasons I always follow up an upgrade with a clean install. Performance is almost always far better.

just did a clean install a few days ago.

performance - major improvements, fast launching apps and explorer
boot time - from a minute above to 16 - 23 seconds. dont have SSD, so pretty good
battery - a bit more stable time compared to the old one

    overall - pleased.

I wouldn't expect blistering performance from that hardware list but a clean install as Deacon says goes a long way to helping out.

i would say it's 0.1/50 of your overall performance, sir.
