Your MOBO must be about 9 YO, so not much life left in it. Probably already out of spec.
"It seems that some people are saying that leaving a PC on 24/7 shortens the lifespan of the hardware while others are saying it increases the lifespan of the hardware."
It's not confusing.
Look at it with common sense - If a PC is left on 24/7 it will be hotter all the time. That reduces the life span of all the components to varying degrees.
On the other hand it won't get as many On/Off switchings which can also reduce the life of a component.
It's swings and roundabouts.
This also excludes the random component failures.
Your information is definitely appreciated!
So, basically, you're telling me that leaving a PC running 24/7 reduces the life span of the PC's components, but turning a PC On/Off constantly ALSO reduces the life span of a PC's components?
I want to keep my PC running 24/7.
What should I do?
Hi,
Leaving that PC on when it does not have to is really absurd.
Cheers,
Putting my PC to sleep and then resuming it sounds like a great idea, but I need to keep Skype running.
