ok so installed one RX 570 back in to get my top monitors working and again i have the usb lag. Now, that was still there with the GTX (less so though ) on balanced power plan. With the GTX on high performance, I did not experience any noticeable lag, except for changing refresh rates. The symrim load lag was completely gone (though that was not present with the 570 in the first place)

Ok, I had a chance to test this. My motherboard has switches to turn off the pcie lanes. So, with both cards plugged in (1080 and RX570) I have lag when inserting usb drive ( the mouse jumps around, task manager stops, etc). When I turn off the 570, lag is gone. When i turn off only the 1080, lag is still present

Now, there is still similar lag when I start the computer with the 1080 and all my startup applications are running (in this case, corsair link, CUE, Nvidia graphics ).

update:with more testing, the 1080 is just smooth all the way around for me. I've even dabbled with turning the power settings back to balanced, and do not have the usb issues (perhaps i had them before because I hadnt yet done a restart after video drivers?? )either way, its probably worth it to me to loose freesync to resolve this lag issue. I believe the lag on startup is related directly to the Corsair CUE software... which makes sense, as it controls the mouse and keyboard.

I do not know if I will bother to test CUE with a different keyboard to see if it causes the same issues without a Corsair device. As far as I am concerned, the actual problem is fixed. I have no more random stutter in games, I dont stutter when inserting a USB drive or when changing settings in Display Settings both on balanced and high performance.

seems as if the issue was either the VC or the VC drivers, leaning on the VC drivers as the chances of two cards having this type of issue, but no other noticeable issues is unusual.
