    Installed RAM 16GB (7.18 usable)

I have an HP Pavilion 500-246 that I got a great deal on at Office Max. I've been very happy with it, but I have a habit of opening multiple tabs in Firefox and it gets bogged down. I decided to add another 8 GB of RAM to the machine, and now even though the BIOS recognizes it, my settings show "Installed RAM 16GB (7.18 usable)" The machine seems a little peppier, but how can I get it to recognize all the RAM installed? I've used msconfig to change the number of processors, and unchecked the max memory, but when it reboots, I see the same thing. Any ideas?

Check in BIOS, how much RAM has your GPU reserved.
If it is set to Auto, it might take as much as it wants.

I didn't see a setting for the GPU in the BIOS, but I did reseat the DIMM, and now I notice this in the Task Manager:

I see 8.8 GB Hardware Reserved. Any ideas?

Please run CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID, open it and make screenshots of the following tabs
    • Memory
    • SPD*

*SPD shows the details of each stick, you can show the details by choosing different slots in the left upper corner.
Please make screenshots of each stick.

Please post each screenshot in your next reply/replies.

    Hi,
@fdgowin : your screenshot shows "Hardware Reserved" : 8.8 Gb which is an awful lot so yes, I suspect it's the GPU that claims the bulk of that.

Or, that the RAM isn't compatible as discussed here - 8GB (3.9GB Usable), Windows 10 x64 Bit

For which we need more information about the RAM.
