Random 100% disk usage spike causing frozen system

Occasionally I'll be watching a movie with VLC player, and then suddenly everything freezes temporarily for 40 seconds or so.

Before everything else becomes fully frozen and unusable, I am able to see Task Manager showing disk usage pinned at 100%, but I don't hear the hard drive chugging.

I can't determine what is causing the disk use spikes.

    Any ideas?

    Hi, first absolute basics:
    1. Please run a check on your disk (s).
Download and run Hard disk sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot of its GUI.

Ideally when or just after you have such a problem:
    2. Please post a screenshot of your task manager, organising any columns of interest high to low by clicking on the relevant column tab. Repeat for different columns if useful.
    (Ideally when you notice problems)

    3. Please post a screenshot like this:

    4. Compare performance after a clean boot.

ok, there's nothing wrong with my disk.

But I was playing a pc game on this, and laptop froze twice while the disk usage shot to 100%
with no read or write occurring.

Once it finishes whatever it's doing, I can resume using my computer.

What the hell is this bug no one has been able to figure out?

This is the same thing I'm talking about, but it looks like some cockroach that can't be killed.

my system driver is iastorA.sys, but the generic ahci.sys driver affects many computers as well.
    Both drivers cause Error 129

    stupid win10 bug.
