RAM ISSUE. Only 2GB usable of 6.

It stopped raining and I need to go to work. Another member is telling me to suggest that you install Speccy - System Information - Free Download and post a screenshot here. (WinKey/Print Screen keys > Your Pictures folder > Screenshots). Make sure to blot out any personal info it may reveal.

4.1GB Hardware Reserved would indicate you have 4GB allocated to the Graphics card, should be a setting in the Bios to reduce it to say 1 or 2GB

Did You try opening RUN and typing msconfig then checking the OS advanced options to see if max memory is set to 0 with the box unchecked ?

AFIK, RAM is never soldered to the motherboard! It was a long time ago, but not since I've been building my own computers.

Hate to say this, Clam, but this is an HP system we're talking about.

They don't let you do much of anything in the BIOS. However, I'm going to look into my Lappy's BIOS to see what I can find.

I let him slide on that one since I'm thinking it's a model You have to remove the MOBO to get to the RAM.

Only SOC models would have RAM that can't be removed AFAIK.

No - Memory module access is a process of removing Battery, service cover (single Philips screw) and lifting a protective shield to expose the memory modules:

I did get to the support page to look for the RAM information, but so far haven't found it.

@cromat18 - Now that you know the RAM (Memory) isn't soldered into your motherboard, proceed to test what may/may not be going on with it, following instructions posted by others.

If you choose to do this, go to Chapter 5 Removal and replacement procedures for Customer Self-Repair parts beginning on Page 28 of the user manual Fafhrd linked to.

I always read at least three times before diving in. If you don't feel comfortable with the procedure, maybe you have a family member or buddy who can handle the task.
